Product Description

In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase Anima Sana In Corpore Sano, which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of A Sound Mind in a Sound Body. Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

I was very excited to get these shoes. I had an older version that I wore completely down after lots of use. I was due for a new pair, and I wanted to buy ASICS again. I am not sure why, but these were slightly larger than my last ones. I ordered the exact same size, but these were definitely more roomy than my previous pair. I was even able to put an insole into them without taking the built in one out, and they were not too tight from doing so. It actually made them fit better to do so. I also noticed the 'toe box' is definitely wider than my last pair, but it's not really a problem, just would have preferred that being a little more narrow. I can say they are extremely comfortable to walk in, and I am not disappointed with my purchase. I might have ordered a half size smaller on this pair, but I cannot say for sure, it may have been too small. I just know that I have a pair the same size and they were not quite as 'roomy' as these are. For me, adding the insole made it fine, and one of the more important features for me was the support for being an 'overpronator'. This shoe has better support than the previous one I had, and I liked it a lot.I am a severe overpronator with arthritis and I have a lot of trouble finding shoes that reduce my foot pain. So far these are the best shoes that I have found. They are very stable in the heel and arch which keeps my ankles from leaning inward. They have just enough cushioning over the firm sole to ease some of my arthritis pain. I also like the large toe box that prevents crowding of my arthritic toes. Another great thing about these shoes is the soft mesh on the sides near the balls of the feet that help alleviate pressure points on the sides of my feet. I don't mean to sound like an old lady. I am in my thirties and genetically predisposed to these problems. I just love these shoes because they have allowed me to walk with a normal stride again.I have tried walking shoes for overpronators in the past and they do not hold up as well as running shoes. I am so happy that Asics makes running shoes for overpronators.I did have a break-in period for the footbed. When I first got them, I couldn't walk or run in them for long without pain in the bottoms of my feet. However, I can wear them all day now without any pain and I really like them. The laces were too short for regular (criss-cross) lacing, so I couldn't wear them that way without feeling they were too binding. Cross-over lacing (https://clouds.on-running.com/en-us/news/tags/the-6-best-ways-to-lace-your-running-shoes) really helped me have enough laces to tie them and let me snug them up to fit my feet well - this helped with the too-short problem as well as the pain in the bottom of my foot. If you have any problems with laces binding or your shoes rubbing or pinching, I recommend experimenting with the way you lace your shoes. You can really customize your fit by using the laces to cinch or allow give that works for you. Seriously, how did it take me 40 years of misfit pain to discover this simple solution? These shoes are great! I wished I would have purchased a 1/2 size smaller. Most reviewers said to order 1/2 size up, so I did, and wished I wouldn't have now. I've been wearing them daily for a few months (I'm on my feet for approx 8 hours a day, in a pharmacy) and they seem to be ok. I love the arch support they provide (Duomax is the way to go!) I've never found a different brand other than Asics that work for me specifically. I get a new pair of Asics with the Duomax arch system, ever 6 months. gotta take care of those feet. Only ones God gave ya.Perhaps I'm not used to gel-fortified running shoes, but my feet got very warm wearing these during the summer in VA. They fit as expected, with a decent size toe box which I need for my Morton's neuroma. I'm not sure if the gel caused my feet to be too warm, because this hasn't occurred with other running shoes over the years. I hope to use it to my advantage in the colder weather, to keep my feet warm. I'm very happy with the fit and sizing and the color isn't too flashy.I've been searching for the perfect Asics shoe for a while. I gained some weight and got back into running but my regular Asics weren't providing good arch support. It took a couple of runs to break this in I think because my feet were sore from poor fiting shoes but once they were broke in they felt awesome. Great support and soft and lots of cushion as well. They are a bit heavier/clunkier than the standard Asics but that is fine. You get used to it .. I highly recommend this shoe for women that have a low/no arch and need a great running shoe with good arch support. These Asics are true to size and fit the same as all my other Asics. These are by FAR the most comfortable sneakers (or any other shoe) that I have ever had on my feet. I participate in the breast cancer 60 mile walk and have been buying Asics for years. I have always found them to be most comfortable, but the fortify are far and above any others that I have tried. They have more cushion and particularly in the front of the shoe, not just the heel area. I also have plantar fasciitis and these feel like heaven! My wife bought these shoes for a second time. They are the most comfortable shoes she has ever worn and she credits them with healing a bad knee. The biggest issue she has had is that the insides of the shoe wear out quickly and all the fabric, foam, and padding disintegrated. Once this started to happen, the shoes dug into her heel and caused irritation. The shoes wore out so badly she couldn't even demote these into yard work shoes. But she loved the original fit and comfort so much she ordered them again. So for fit and comfort these get 5 stars, but for durability and value, they get much lower, and hence my 3 star rating.
