The GEL-Cumulus 18 shoe features our Rearfoot and forefoot gel cushioning system for strike-specific shock attenuation to create smoother transitions. The FluidRide midsole technology provides neutral runners with enhanced comfort and a spring-loaded ride when running longer distances. In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.
(READ TILL THE END, AND YOU'LL SEE WHY I GAVE THEM 5 STARS).I have been STRUGGLING to find a pair of ASICS. Ugh, not sure what happened, but I have always worn a 10 B (that's a 10 with medium width). All of a sudden, I started seeing reviews where people were saying the various models/lines they have always bought from ASICS were too small and too narrow. I tried a couple pair - my toes were SQUISHED, and I don't have particularly wide feet. Anytime I've ever tried to buy wide width shoes, they have always been monstrous on my feet, way too big, so I know it's not the size of my foot. It was the the new models/lines ASICS came out with. The reviews online backed this up. So I thought, eh, I'll try 10.5 B - maybe they're smaller over all and the 10.5 will give me some room. NOPE. The 10.5s were still too narrow and way too long.I was convinced that, even if wides fit in my toe box, that they would be too wide on the rest of my foot. So I went on a search for a whole other brand of running shoes. I looked at Altras (too expensive - there is no reason I should I have to pay $120 for a pair of running shoes, I'm sorry, I am not a marathoner). I tried Saucony (which are known for having a wider toe box) and Reebok - both of them felt great in the store but hurt IMMENSELY after walking around in them throughout the day. I didn't do anything particularly harsh in the Sauconys - just went to work and then to a Pampered Chef party, but the bursitis in my right foot FLARED UP BIG TIME by the end of the day. I took them back to Academy and told them they really needed to give my money back, because that condition had not flared up in years till the day I wore those shoes.Thankfully they took them back, and it was back to the drawing board.Well, out of nothing more than sheer frustration, I sat down one day and ordered $750 worth of shoes on Amazon Prime (only from sellers who did free returns!) - it was several ASICS models/styles, and I ordered them in 10 D (which is wide width) and 10.5 D. I tried on every single pair - I'm talking the Gel Nimbus, Gel Venture, Gel Excite...I can't even remember what all I ordered, but my husband was freaking out a little bit, wanting to make sure I returned all the ones that wouldn't work.I finally came to the Gel Cumulus 18. Somehow I ended up with a 10.5 D but not a 10 D. So I ordered yet ANOTHER pair of running shoes (my grand total is now well over $800), but finally....FINALLY...the shoes fit! Praise the Lamb, they fit! Ultimately, what I hadn't realized was that literally all I needed to do was order my regular size (10) but order them in wide (D) instead of medium (B). This solved the problem, and the bursitis flare up has gone away now that I've been wearing these running shoes the past two weeks. THIS IS THE REASON I'M GIVING THESE SHOES 5 STARS.So if you have really narrow feet, the regular width (B) ASICS are probably fine for you. But if you have normal feet or normal with a little bit wider toe box, you will probably want to go with the wides. No guarantees on that, of course, but that's how it worked out for me. With a little bit more research, I did end up seeing another review or two where other people had come to that same conclusion.
