Product Description

In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

I bought these shoes to wear around the house and for doing PiYo. I naturally supinate, especially on my right leg, and have fallen arches that cause a lot of leg and back pain when I am on my feet all day. These shoes do a great job of reducing the supination problem and seem to bring my foot and leg back into a better alignment. I did have some odd leg and foot pains the first week of wearing them, as if certain tendons were getting tightened into a different position than they were. I can't tell for sure that was the case, but it seemed like having my leg and foot properly aligned all day was making the tendons try to correct to the more proper alignment ( a good thing). My legs and back don't hurt near as bad if I wear these shoes all day. The cushion in them is nice - not too much and not too little. There isn't much arch support in them. I feel more balanced in these shoes because of the wide bottom to them. It isn't so wide that it looks funny or trips you, but it is enough to help you balance during exercise or preventing/reducing foot rolling. The memory foam does give a bit under your foot and create a little arch shape, but no firm arch support. I find many arch supports to be very slippery and that causes problems with my workouts, so I like the non-slippery but cushioned insole of these shoes. On a side note, the orange laces are a bit shocking right out of the package if you aren't used to wearing bright colors. It isn't a hideous combination of colors. I just find the neon orange a bit bright for my usual taste. Since I use my shoes for indoors ONLY, the orange laces are great as a visual reminder to not accidently wear them out of the house and dirty them up (not something you want to do when you have light cream colored carpets all over the house.)I’ve been buying ASICS Gel Fortitude running shoes for the past 5 years or so. They are the best running shoes I’ve ever purchased...especially if you have wide feet. Comfortable with no rubbing. I recently completed my 3rd half marathon and I never felt like I had to “break in” these sneakers which is great when you buy them while you are in training mode. The perk about going through this company is that the price was about $30 cheaper than I’ve seen at any brick and mortar store. Plus being a Prime member, I had no s&h, so that was another plus. They also offered an amazing color selection compared to the store where I usually purchased them. Also, the color online and what I received matched up perfectly. I’m very happy with my selection. These shoes work well for my bunions. They have a wide toe box and flexible mesh-type material over the bunion area. They are also very cushioned, so overall a very comfortable shoe. If you are familiar with New Balance SL-2 last shoes, I switched to these Asics after New Balance discontinued the SL-2 model I had been wearing, and I find the fit comparable. In addition, the soles have held up well on my treadmill -- no little shreds wearing off. Not a fan of the bright orange laces and trim, but the fit and comfort more than make up for it.I knew these ran a tad small so I ordered a half size up. Perfect fit when you know what to expect. They are very comfortable. The only reason I'm giving them a 4 star rather than a 5 is because of the color. I'd love to have a plain white tennis shoe with the comfortable and quality of these!I bought these looking for a shoe with exceptionally good support . While they are very comfortable and seem well made, they don't have the support that I need. I have pain in my feet and knees and over pronation issue. Maybe I need to try some different orthotics in them.Love these shoes. Wish Asics still made them.I always buy Asics athletic shoes. As a cancer survivor, previous chemo created neuropathy/pain in my feet. Asics shoes, in general, provide tge most comfortable fit. These shoes are right up there with the best I've bought! Just the right amount of support, yet plenty of flexibility for training. And they look great! Winner!Very comfortable and nice cushion feel.
