Shoe satisfaction is extremely subjective and I admittedly have an unusual shoe size due to significant bunions on both feet(women's 10.5 wide). I moved from Asics Kayanos to NB 769s (11-2Es) in the last year. I wanted to try the NB 1224 in the D size instead of 2E because I thought the 2Es were a little too wide in the toebox. The toebox difference between the Ds and 2Es is large and created discomfort instantly right at the bunions. The biggest problem, however, is the amount of motion control these shoes produce. The 1224s are for severe overpronators not mild ones. I've jogged in these 4x over one week and the change in my gait produced major swelling to my left ankle and created problems for my hips and lower back. I now know that the 769s were probably just the right amount of correction needed for my mild pronation. I know the higher model no. indicates increased motion control but I wasn't expecting anything near what was produced by the shoe. I'm giving the NB 1224s 3 stars because even though they weren't the right shoes for me. If you're a severe overpronator the price on these 1224s is unbeatable, NB is a good company and one of the few that still makes shoes in the USA (some models anyway), and the color and size selection are great.I was skeptical at first, but one workout and I was convinced. I've gone through many shoes and this one does it all. It puts my Nike and Fila runners to shame. It fits a woman's foot as it should - a little wider in the toe-box and hugs the heal. I have had major foot surgery, a broken ankle, sprains, and more. The New Balance WR1224 provides ample cushioning support just where you need it most. Your ankle is supported and the ball of your foot is totally protected from impact. It's fantastic for ladies with sensitive feet. I would highly recommend this shoe to women for both running and high-impact aerobic workouts. The shoe is so comfortable it makes my cardio sessions easier to get through! I'm getting a second pair just so I can have an extra one on hand. A+++ for the WR1224 from New Balance.I have fallen arches from multiple sprained ankles from years of playing volleyball and needed a good sneaker for speed walking. This shoe has a great arch and is build up to prevent from over pronating. Do order a whole size larger than your shoe size. I wear an 8-1/2 dress shoe and ordered a 9-1/2 sneaker and it fits perfectly. The only negative that I give it is that the padding in the front of the shoe (at the ball) is too little. Add a shoe insert!I have flat feet and unstable ankles and these shoes fit very well, even without the $20 arch/shock support pads recommended at the shoe stores. The shoe wraps around the ankle snug and just right, together with the wider base I can plant my feet on any surface securely. The top of the toe area is roomy and comfortable, which is a plus as my 2nd and 3rd toes are relatively longer than average. However, the right shoe does squeak, which is a minor annoyance. The length of the tongue seems slightly too short, the tie slips off over the end of the tongue. 1/4" longer would have been perfect.I bought a pair of these over the summer for running 4-5 days a week (15-20 miles) and 5k road races at a fairly competitive level. They have the stability and cushioning I need, without too much weight. I highly recommend them particularly for road running. When I found a 2nd pair for $45 at Ross in my size, I snapped them up for use when the first pair wears out. However, I think they are worth paying than that for. If you are looking for a great looking shoe for walking, you can probably find something less expensive, but this is a great bet for running.I have very narrow feet, and in the past it was hard to find shoes that fit. I took the advice of other reviewers and ordered one size up from my usual size in the narrow width. The shoes fit me perfectly, and I was especially glad I had ordered up on the downhills. The cushioning was terrific. I'll write again in few months to report how they hold up for me, but this was a great purchase for the price. One note - in the photo the shoes looked orange, but they are actually hot pink and silver.I bought these as a replacement for the 1223 model, which I loved. While the fit is the same and I like they way they look, something is just off when I run in them. They are light and the width is perfect, but either my foot changed in the past year or something is different in this model that makes my feet hurt, pretty much right off the bat. I can still run in them, and don't have any issues post-run, but my runs just aren't as comfy as they were with the 1223.Not all fabrics and materials in this shoe are American-made but they are assembled in New England. I am very pleased with the shoes as they are comfy and quiet. They fit well and I think they are attractive. I have a pair of Brooks that are super loud. It sounds like I am wearing rubber underpants when I walk in them. So it is really nice to have silent shoes.Shoes should be seen and not heard!!!These were bought, on recommendation,to ease my foot condition Plantar Fasciitis.I can't say they work yet, as they are too tight for me - the sizing is VERY small, and I have had to buy shoe stretchers in the hope that I WILL be able to wear them and get some relief from my very painful foot. So I'd advise getting a size larger, as there is not much " give " because the uppers are not leather. The price is VERY good, and delivery was speedy.I've been looking for a replacement pair of these 1224 New Balance Running Shoes for absolutely ages.I do a lot of long distance runs and always buy New Balance partly because they are British made but mainly because they are the best running shoes I have ever found.Highly recommended. :-))
